The Countdown to Supreme 13
Websites like presidentialtermclock.com track down to the second exactly how much time remains in the current administration. For our movement, that countdown marks something specific: the first moment in time when a unified Democratic presidency and Congress can begin expanding the U.S. Supreme Court to 13 seats.
Achieving this goal requires crossing three critical legislative thresholds:
• The House: At least 218 representatives must vote in favor of a bill to expand the Court.
• The Senate: At least 50 senators (with a Democratic Vice President breaking the tie) must vote to eliminate the filibuster—at least for the purpose of judicial expansion—and pass the legislation.
• The Presidency: A Democratic President must be ready to sign the bill into law, recognizing the immense risk of allowing a conservative supermajority to hold a permanent veto over major national policy.
By appointing four new progressive justices, we can finally rebalance the institution and end nearly six decades of conservative judicial control.
Between now and then, the rest of us have vital work to do. We must educate our fellow citizens and political leaders on why this structural reform is essential to preserving our democracy.
Supreme 13 is dedicated to this mission. We provide the resources, data, and information needed for everyone choosing to join this movement.
Take Action
Real structural change doesn't start in Washington; it starts with grassroots momentum. We need to build a coalition loud enough that future leaders cannot ignore.
